One
thing defines the Christian faith setting it completely apart from every other
worldview, the blessed hope of a redeemed life in Jesus Christ. The
Bible says, “How
beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the herald, who proclaims peace, who
brings news of good things, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion,
"Your God reigns!" (Isaiah 51:7). One of the greatest leaders
of the 20th century Winston Churchill said, “the greatest
evil in our world is to take away a man’s hope.” If you consider the other side
of this, the greatest good is to give it. Hope based on a lie is meaningless,
but hope based on the truth is the brightest star our hearts will ever see.
That is what Ravi’s ministry meant to me, he eloquently and gently poured the
light of the Truth of God into the darkest corners of my soul.
As I
have listened and learned from many preachers, theologians and lay ministers in
the past quarter-century of my life, some brilliantly, some with malice, the thought
occurred to me on when I read this verse “The Lord God has given Me the tongue
of those who are instructed to know how to sustain the weary with a word. He
awakens each morning; He awakens My ear to listen like those being instructed” (Isaiah 50:4.) This is the highest calling of the human soul, to know instinctively
with great skill, as a learned person, to expound verbally the exact words
needed to sustain a weary soul. The only thing that will bring light and life
to a weary soul, is hope based on the truth. That is Ravi, he gave us the
reason for believing, he used his a well-instructed voice as an instrument of God, no one used words more effectively to share the gospel freeing souls trapped in the darkest of dungeons in human existence.
Hope
is the most beautiful sonnet ever sung in the heart of any man, there is no
greater joy than to possess hope, it brings love, it grows peace in our hearts,
it sustains a weary soul where the only remedy is receiving the word of truth
in love. The greatest last words we will ever hear on this is "I love you too..." from those we love the most. The most beautiful words we will ever hear once we reach the other side is "well done." I know the first words of heaven for Ravi...
