The Most Broken Commandment of Our Day
Post Truth
Perhaps one of our time’s most important cultural events is the Oxford Dictionary introducing a new word phrase into their dictionary. “Post-truth; Relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief.” In reality, people have just created their own compass for what they believe is true.
The Forgotten Commandment
The significance of this corresponds with a law in the Bible in both the Old Testament and New Testament. This law is the most violated commandment that is rarely taught, preached, or understood. This almost unknown commandment is the single most neglected commandment of our age. This critical yet neglected commandment is the foundational procuring cause of most, if not all, of the moral awfulness in society. It is the catalyst for all political anarchy, spiritual apostasy, and individual suffering that is rapidly destroying whole societies, decimating lives by robbing the souls of mankind of hope.
The further mankind strays from the Biblical command, the more significant spiritual atrophy resulting in worldwide deception, the most critical contributor to all false teachings, counterfeits of Christianity, and lies people believe both of others and themselves. This one broken commandment is the most significant contributor to anxiety, fear, hatred, and all perversion. The father of this violation has masterfully interpolated the culture as well as the worldviews of many Christians with counterfeit truth claims.
Maliness
So, what is this commandment? It is the law of the malicious witness, and I commend you a new word, (maliness), short for the Law of the Malicious Witness. It is essential to understand this: maliness (the law of the malicious witness) is the most violated law of the 21st century; its origin is with the father of lies, Satan, who is the persona of the original malicious witness right at the onslaught of the fall of man. Consider this: it was the maliness of Satan that brought sin into our world.
The Origin of Maliness
The origin of the maliness is at the beginning, in the book of Origins, “Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” (Genesis 3:1). “Yea, hath God said…'' One of the characteristics of a malicious witness is they falsely accuse the brethren. The essence of maliness is so essential to the story of mankind; the first and last mentions of Satan in the Biblical metanarrative have Satan accusing God of deceiving Eve into believing God is holding back on her at the last mention of him in the Bible is when he is cast into the lake of fire for his constant accusing of the brethren.
“And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night” (Revelation 12:10).
The opposite of a malicious witness or false witness is a true witness. The biblical standard for the faithful witness is “by two or three eyewitnesses..” Having two or three unbiased eyewitnesses is the Biblical standard for all truth claims. Anytime someone makes a truth claim, they are a malicious witness by default. Some examples are all false prophets; each time one individual makes a truth claim without multiple unbiased witnesses, they are a false witness by default.
How Do You Measure Up?
Consider this: all counterfeits of Christianity have as their first cause the origin of their truth claims one person making a truth claim by himself: Islam, for example, Mohammad, one man making a truth claim. Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism, Charles Russell Tazz, and every cult leader throughout history, even the Pope. Anytime in every instance, when one person makes a truth claim, that person violates the law of the malicious witness. Add to this all the Eastern religions, all mystical, such as the Gautama Buddha, Krishna, Confucius, and Zoroaster. Add modern ones such as Mary Baker Eddy. Every one of these religious leaders/founders of their religion violates the law of the malicious witness. You can add to these false witnesses every man-made system for religious beliefs; even well-meaning famous theologians can make claims as a single witness and unwittingly be a false witness.
The obvious question is, how does Christianity measure up to this standard for establishing a truth claim? It is often assumed that all religions are superficially different and fundamentally the same; however, this popularized secular thought does not cohere with reality. Christianity is the only belief that does not violate the standard of the malicious witness and the opposite standard for the faithful witness. The Christian Bible is two testimonies, an Old Testament (testimony) of the Prophets. Each of these 39 books of the Old Testament prophecies what, who, how, when, and why God would send the Messiah, His Son, the third person of the Trinity, to save mankind from their sins. The Old Testimony (Old Testament) has approximately 400 specific predictions of Christ. The New Testament (new testimony) consists of 26 books written by the Apostles, recording as eyewitnesses what Christ did and how He fulfilled precisely in every detail the 400 prophecies (predictions) of the Old Testament Prophets. The four gospels, Matthew and John, fulfill the necessity of the law of the faithful witness by establishing their truth claims with two eyewitnesses: Luke gives his witness forensically on behalf of Theophelous, and Mark writes on behalf of Peter.
The New Age of False Teachers
Where false teachers abound in the modern age, it is still the same issue. One person makes a truth claim often due to sins they wish not to give up; people follow these false teachers, living in the lie. Some even die for the lie, but all have one thing in common: in every instance, as individuals make truth claims, they violate the law of the malicious witness. This is precisely why, in the current times, lies permeate our culture, politics, media, social media, and education system, affecting every area of our lives, including, unfortunately, our places of worship and educational institutions.
The Sign of The End Times
The outcome, as predicted in Scripture about the last days, “...even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” (Daniel 12:4) The New Testament gives us the second witness of this truth, “Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth” (2 Timothy 3:7). In our world, even though there is the most information the world has ever produced, people are no longer capable of discerning the truth, mainly for one simple reason. The standard outlined in Scripture for determining truth has been suppressed by the unrighteous of men who do so to deceive the multitudes. “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth” (Romans 1:18). Why is this issue of such great importance? It is because hope not based on truth is meaningless. The ultimate hope of every believer is the truth claims of Jesus “I am the light of the world…” (John 8:12). The opposite of Christ is the false witness, or bearing a false witness, which is the sin of our age, maliness, (malicious witness). “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.” (Exodus 20:16).
The Forgotten Standard
It is observed that Jesus quoted from the Law, especially Deuteronomy; perhaps the Christian needs to revisit the standard set forth for right living, especially when it comes to the law of the true witness. Read through these passages and ask, what standard am I living by?
“At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness, he shall not be put to death.
One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established. If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong; Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the Lord, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days” (Deuteronomy 19:15-17).
Jesus Quoted The Law of The True Witness
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. The Pharisees, therefore, said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true. Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go. Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man. And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me. It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. I bear witness of myself and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me. Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.” (John 8:12-19)
From the Old Testament book of Deuteronomy, the New Testament witness of Christ in John 8 and the Apostle Paul, which is the culmination of the entire Old Testament and New Testament commandments are repeated and clarified by Paul in the command to the Corinthian church, 2 Corinthians 13:1 “This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.”
Everyone Believes They Are Right
Turn on any media channel, visit any social media site, and listen to people speak; we have entered the new age of the self-righteous, the manliness of man—the self-righteous maliness of this present age. In Scripture, we have the example given by Solomon in the Proverbs, “Every way of a man is right in his own eyes” (Proverbs 21:2). People justify their life choices based on their own vision, their own witness, their own maliness.
This is why Maliness is the most violated commandment of our day.
